In the early 1920s, Hugo noticed how the automotive industry was growing and examined the problems most automakers were facing at the time.

By experimenting with many different materials and designs, he created gaskets made from a tightly woven asbestos-metal material.

Mass production of gaskets developed by Hugo started in 1929 and had a huge impact on the automotive industry.

A few years later, Reinz decided that it was time to abandon the idea of producing industrial products and focus solely on making gaskets for automotive motors. This decision is what helped propel the Reinz brand to global success.From the late 1920s until now, Reinz has produced more than 1.5 billion flat gaskets.

More than 70 years after the company was founded in Germany, Reinz was acquired by the American Dana Corporation.

The Dana Corporation also has a very rich history, having been founded in 1904. It currently employs more than 38,000 people around the world and has over 150 facilities in 33 countries.
