The Honda Civic is and has been one of the company’s most important offerings. It’s a big seller and the vehicle that generates a massive chunk part of their profits. This car is the go-to option if you are in the market for a no-nonsense practical sedan. It’s up there with the Toyota Corolla in this segment.
While the Civic is largely known for its affordability and practicality, it has also developed quite a reputation among those looking for something fun and sporty on a budget. Over the years, Honda has always had several versions of the Civic including one that’s sporty, namely the Si. These versions featured multiple small tweaks that helped enhance the otherwise humble car’s performance.
These Si versions come at an added cost and are almost always less fuel-efficient as they are tuned for performance. If you want none of that, but some Si styling elements, the company will sell you the Sport package. Here’s what the new Honda Civic Sport 2022 model offers!

Honda Civic – Introduction
One could easily write a book about the summary of the Honda Civic. The car has been around for decades in many body styles. That’s not all, each body style has also had its versions. Then there’s the fact that the car has continuously evolved and is now in its 11th generation. Instead of discussing each generation and all of its highlights we’ve decided to list what makes the 11th generation unique.
Given its popularity worldwide, several countries get changes specific for those markets. This includes different engine options, trim levels, and features. However, to not complicate things, we will stick to the North American version. In the US, the Civic is available in four trim levels – LX, Sport, EX, and Touring. There’s also a liftback version that gets an additional Sport Touring badge. The Honda Civic Sport 2022 and LX 2022 are powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. The EX and Touring versions, meanwhile, use a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
While the Canadian market gets the same four variants, the Sport sits above the EX in the line-up. A big difference comes in the form of engines between the US and Canadian versions, the latter only gets the more powerful turbocharged engine in the Touring version. While the standard transmission option is a CVT. Honda does offer a 6-speed manual, but only with the Sport and Sport Touring versions of the liftback.
As with every new-generation model, there are many changes. The 11th generation Civic features a completely redesigned exterior a lot more streamlined than the 10th generation model. It also features several changes to the interior including a larger touchscreen and a digital dash. One also can’t ignore the number of changes to the hardware including a revised suspension setting that improves handling and comfort. The Honda Civic Sport 2022 also gets the sporty-looking 18-inch gloss black wheels. Other cosmetic differences come in the form of black-out bits replacing what would otherwise be chrome or painted silver on the other trim levels.
Honda Civic Sport 2022 – Is It Well Equipped?
As mentioned earlier, it sits just above the entry-level LX version, making it the second most affordable version and arguably the sweet spot. While that does sound quite appealing, let’s see if its equipment lives up to the expectations.
Performance and Fuel Efficiency

Powering the Honda Civic Sport 2022 is the company’s naturally-aspirated, 2.0-liter, inline-four K20C2 engine. Almost every carmaker is moving away from naturally-aspirated engines due to the many benefits of a turbocharged set-up. This is also why you see the turbocharged on the more expensive models. Nonetheless, the engine is as well-equipped as a naturally-aspirated engine can be. DOHC, i-VTEC, port injection, drive-by-wire, and some of the modern features it uses.
The new Honda Civic Sport makes 158 HP and 138 lb-ft of torque. While power and torque numbers, don’t make the car feel sporty in any way. That said, the engine this car uses is fairly responsive. What’s more likable though is the CVT. Multiple reports suggest that it’s refined and almost always doing its job correctly. One almost doesn’t notice the CVT doing its thing, and that’s one of the best compliments the transmission can get.

The turbocharged engine does have many benefits and one of them is fuel efficiency. While the naturally-aspirated Honda Civic Sport 2022 is less fuel-efficient in comparison, it is still known to deliver 30 MPG in the city, 37 MPG on the highway, and 33 MPG combined. In comparison, the turbocharged units found on the trim levels above it are capable of 33 MPG in the city, 42 MPG on the highway, and 36 MPG combined. While the difference will certainly be noticeable, the Civic Sport is still quite fuel-efficient regardless.
While the Honda Civic Sport 2022 has respectable fuel efficiency numbers, the performance doesn’t match Sport name tag. If you want to stick to the Sport variant, the liftback is available in a Sport Touring which gets the more powerful turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
How Does the New Civic Sport Handle?
While there were changes from the 10th generation to improve the handling characteristic of the 11th gen. There’s nothing that makes the Honda Civic Sport 2022 stand out when compared to the other trim levels on offer. It makes use of the same chassis as the others which is why it’s best not to expect too much. This is an extremely affordable compact sedan after all.
While it’s not sporty in terms of handling, it’s still quite communicative. The steering has a good amount of weight to it and is also responsive. The chassis also has a balanced feel to it while the braking assures confidence. The new Civic Sport isn’t better in terms of handling when compared to a Mazda 3, but it’s still more composed than its other direct rivals.
Available Features and Options

The Honda Civic Sport 2022 is still one of the more affordable options which means it misses out on some tech. Like the LX that sits below it and the EX that sits above it, it makes use of a 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system.
In comparison, the Touring version gets a 9-inch unit. Truth be told, the 7-inch display does look a bit small when you factor in how comfortable we are getting with large screens. This infotainment system also requires a wired connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While it’s small it gets the job done. Another feature the Honda Civic Sport 2022 misses out on is the 10.2-inch fully-digital instrumentation seen on the Touring variant.
Instead, it makes use of semi-digital instrumentation that uses a 7-inch screen to display the tachometer and other information. All that said, the new Civic Sport doesn’t miss out on the driver aids. This means it gets the company’s lane-keeping assist feature, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist. Other features found on the Honda Civic Sport 2022 are automatic headlights and traffic sign recognition. One feature the Sport misses out on, but the EX gets is blind-spot monitoring. The Touring trim level takes things further by adding cross-traffic monitoring.
Is the New Civic Sport a Good Deal?

Overall, there’s a lot to like about the Honda Civic Sport 2022. The 11th generation Civic is certainly at the top of the compact sedan segment. It’s a well-engineered product that the company has managed to continuously improve over the years, just like some of the most iconic Civics before it. The new car is also quite neutral in terms of styling which makes it extremely easy to like. Speaking of styling, let’s not forget that it looks more premium with its cosmetic differences.
The Honda Civic Sports 2022 also manages to impress when it comes to its chassis which offers a good balance of handling and comfort. The safety-related features are another big highlight. Lastly, the company has also cleaned up the design elements of the interior and exterior, making them significantly more appealing. All of this for $25,000? Sounds like a good deal to us!
